Blogging Laws

blogging laws

If you want to blog legally, there are several factors you should consider. This article will cover copyright, Freedom of Information Acts, Editorial Control, Deep linking, and other legal considerations. Although these factors are not as important as the other aspects of blogging they are nonetheless important. These issues aside, blogging can still be a wonderful way to express yourself and your passion. If you have questions about blogging laws, please feel free to contact me. I'd love to answer all your questions.

Copyright

These copyright laws are important to remember if you blog about music, literature, or art. While most bloggers believe that they can post images from Instagram, Google Image Search and other sites without violating any copyright laws, it is not possible to take an image and then post it without the permission of its author. It is also illegal to publish an image without credit. Always seek permission in writing before you post an image.

Freedom of Information Act

Bloggers may be asked not reproduce documents which are subject to third-party copyright, if they obtain commercially sensitive information. Posting PDF copies of Freedom of Information Act requested documents may be the fastest and easiest way of publishing information. However, if the original author has not given permission to use the PDF copy, it could be considered a violation of law. Public authorities who copy documents as a response to information request are not bound by copyright laws. However, they can generally use the documents received.

Editorial control

What is editorial controls and how does this affect online discussion? This article examines user perceptions and opinions about editorial control in online comments fields. We also analyze how users feel about changes in editorial controls since the September 11th terrorist attacks. We find that online discussion can be affected by editorial control in a number of different ways. It can be hard to decide if an online discussion field is a good thing or not, but these changes should not be considered a failure of editorial oversight.

Deep linking

Deep links can be used to link users to content from another website. Although the best way to link back to an original piece of work is to include the author's name or the URL of the website where the work was originally posted, deep links can be effective as well. Deep links to videos can, for instance, direct users to the original video. However, sharing the video without author's name or URL does not violate copyright laws. Instead, it can lead users to another page or window that has the content.

Disclosures

To ensure transparency in advertising practices by bloggers, the Federal Trade Commission has updated its guidelines. The new guidelines require bloggers to disclose any vested interests in links or posts and to disclose whether they have received free products in exchange for their opinions. This is a requirement to protect consumers as well as build trust between readers and contributors. Here are some of the most common disclosures in blogging laws. This information must be displayed on your blog. But be aware: These rules are not always adhered to.

Taxes

There are a few important things you need to remember when filing your tax returns for a blog. First, keep track of your expenses. Blogging is fun but requires some business acumen. You will be responsible for taxes on all profits exceeding $100,000 if you fail to keep track of business expenses. But most businesses have expenses. Keeping track of these costs will help you to reduce your tax bill.
